Don't Forget the Libraries

Heading back from Los Angeles…In between traveling, taking meetings and going out for drinks there was work to do—in a sturdy chair and wooden desk at The Beverly Hills Library! I should head to libraries more often during my work day. I miss that.

Face in the Water

Yes! Actual face IN the water. Not Face-ING the water. I did it. I had my eyes open and swam my half-lap with my face in the water. When I came up and turned my head to the right for air, I want to say the lifeguard gave me a “thumbs up”! But I had my goggles on, not my glasses. So…there was some kind of gesture. Could’ve been “This is the last time I let you use the lap lane.” LOL

Progress.

Next: Get my ears in without freaking out. We’ll see!

Holding my breath...

…and I have to remember not to do that while swimming! Yes, still conquering my fear. I’m an adult learner—and above-water (only) swimmer. BUT! I think I hit a milestone in my recent class. My instructor told me she is very proud of me. My face is now in the water. I guess that’s right. No way no how water was touching above my ear lobes before. Now with practice of my half-laps with a kickboard, I am able to exhale in the water. And I notice exhaling is like an engine—I move further in distance while exhaling!

I am up to counting to the number five as I exhale. I bet an eight-count is better. I’ll work my way up! Next goal. Then…eventually…swim on with no floatie in sight! As well as swim on with my head below the surface and… off we go!

Conquering Fear from The Crypto COO

Summer 2022 was the big “dive in.” I spent 12- to 16-hours a day on a TV series I’ll share closer to its air date, I managed behind-the-scenes startup activities for 3QualiTy, our new cryptocurrency-backed fintech firm, and, of course I was thrilled to produce and co-host the gem of it all, our radio/podcast series Before You Go. To even close friends who ask, “How do you do it all, Nicole?”…well, I love it. And my team on each project makes it all worthwhile. But when I do take the Exit Ramp for a breather and look at all that’s going on, I’m aware to most that my operating at top speed—especially as a Crypto COO—could seem super scary. That’ not lost on me. Yet, I do have one lifelong fear that in my 50+ years on life I have yet to fully conquer: Swimming.

It seems like I was born with a fear of water. I failed two water safety classes in childhood, bailed on the college course for students with “a fear of water,” but I was always super comfortable hanging over the side of a speed boat, or skipping ocean waves teetering off the edge of a Hobie Cat. It’s inexplicable. But it’s time for a change.

Amidst all the crazy hours, I took my first of two (or three) adult swim courses and now I get to practice solo in the lap lanes. I’m not killing it out there. I’m still trying to get past five full laps! Oh, just a note. My fear of water has not faded so fast. I swim my laps using a kickboard! I’m hoping my second round of lessons will get me floaty free!

Is there aa fear you’re ready to conquer? Somewhere life is leading you but hesitation get the best of you?

It’s now or never, I say. Let’s dive in!

Heading to the pool! Hmmmm….Which bathroom toiletries will keep me above water? LOL

That's a Wrap for The Forks!

We’re back! Production for small indie troupes like mine and Myra’s are back in action and it’s been so much fun! Yesterday I was so happy to be on a real set—with people!

First I took a nostalgic walk along many of the places where I’ve filmed through the years—and even memorialized crew with a tree and park bench— in Manhattan. COVID it’s time to go. Then I hopped on a bus and headed to Brooklyn to the fabulous Bunker Studio to record the enchanting and very funny new radio play The Forks! by the super talented Myra Sito Velasquez. Our cast of friends and new friends was hands down the best to bring these delightful characters to life.

The play is a spot on #comedy so it was wonderful to laugh! I’m thrilled and honored to be a producer for my friend’s project and I can’t wait for all of you to once again experience Myra’s creation. Such a brilliant writer. Remarkable piece. The guys in the studio were laughing so we got a great reaction. More professional photos from our set #photographer Daryl Tillman to come. What a great way to start the week. Well done, cast—especially when we had to adhere to many COVID Compliant protocols to get here. It’s a new world, but the cast brought us back to those warm fuzzy feelings! Bravo! And Viva la Revolution!
